What Can Singing Do For You?

Updated: Mar 3, 2022

Here's a short read for you about everything the world of voice has to offer when it comes to health. I like to think of it as a singing doctor, the vocal gp if you will. In the UK we are fortunate enough to have access to free health-care thanks to the NHS, and with the accessibility of the internet (or without if you fancy singing a capella) using your vocals is also FREE!

If you didn't already know, there are tons of health benefits when it comes to singing. Here's just a few of them:

  • Boosts your confidence

  • Enhances lung function

  • May Improve snoring

  • Helps beat stress and promote relaxation

  • Allows you to express yourself fully

  • Aids memory improvement

  • Builds a sense of community, connection and belonging

  • Can help with pain releif

  • Can reduce anxiety symptoms

  • Betters mental health and depression

  • Helps with grief

  • Improves cognition

  • Stimulates creativity

  • Lowers blood pressure

  • Boosts immunity

  • Helps you sleep better

  • Improves posture

  • and much more...

To summerise, singing is an all round positive activity. Endorphins (the feel-good hormones) are released when we sing which help to promote all kinds of benefits. These benefits are ampliflied even more so when we sing with others, this is because the production of oxytocin is induced (the bonding hormone) which can increase feelings of trust and respect.

So, do you think there's something that singing could help you with? Then if you havent already, go put on some tunes and do some singing today!
